An ideal throw quilt size would be 54 inches wide and 64 inches long for throw quilts. These are the most popular quilts as they go with most bed sizes.

How to Calculate the Quilt Size You Need

If you are going for a customized quilt, then there are some things you’ll need to know beforehand. And if you are looking for a formula to calculate your quilt size, then look no further. We have a formula that can help you calculate your quilt size.

Before sharing the formula, there are some things you should know:

  • Length of the mattress
  • The breadth of the mattress
  • Depth of the mattress

Now, let’s have a look at the formulas that can help you calculate the quilt length and breadth. Here, length is L; Depth is D, and Width is W.

W + 2x D = Quilt Width

L + D = Quilt Length

Let’s take an example of how you can calculate the queen quilt size of a queen mattress.

L = 80 inches, W = 60 inches, D = 12 inches, so the queen bed quilt size would be:

Quilt width = 60 inches + 2 x 12 inches = 84 inches

Quilt Length = 80 + 12 = 92 inches

So for a standard queen-size mattress, you should get an 84 inches wide and 92 inches long queen-size quilt. And just like that, you’ve calculated the ideal length and width of a quilt for a queen mattress.

The best way would be to ask the salesperson and get help if you are unsure about the size. The other way is just calculating the bed quilt sizes on your end.

Summing It up

Now that you know the quilt sizes for beds, it should be easier for you to find what you are looking for, like a double-size quilt or a full-size quilt. We are sure you’ll be able to find a quilt that fits your needs easily.

There are various types of quilt available in the market; some are standardized while some are not. The key would be to keep looking for them until you get a comfortable one. Even if you cannot remember the quilt size according to the bed, just remember that they should be 3-4 inches wider and longer than your current mattress.

A throw-size quilt would be 54 inches wide and 60 inches long. You can also get some free-sized throw quilts in the market, but if you wish to have a specific size, this should do it.

As mentioned above, the standard sizes for quilts are Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King.
